The European Deepstack Poker Championship 2011 was a huge success. Player numbers were up from 465 in 2010 to a whopping 737 in 2011. Even the side events were bigger. 370 players competed in the 300 side event compared to 293 last year.
The 2012 festival has some great new additions to the schedule. Firstly there will be a €2500 High-Roller event starting on the Tuesday night. This will follow the same structure as the main event. Also for Omaha fans there is now a €550 Deepstack Omaha tournament on the Saturday. This will be a triple chance tournament with players getting 3 lots of 10,000 chips which can be taken at any time during the first 4 levels. It will have a generous 45 min clock.
Every day during the 2012 event there will be live streaming from a feature table from the High-Roller and the Main Event.
The Ballsbridge Inn is handily place on the Aircoach route for easy airport access. It has an onsite Cinema, Deli, Bars & Shop. The 24hr Coffee dock Bistro has also now opened making a great poker venue with hot food & drinks available almost all the time.
The main event at The European Deepstack Poker Championships is one of the best structured poker tournaments in the world. 50,000 starting chips, a one hour clock which goes to 90 minutes on the final day and smooth level increases all the way. This is one event that you do not want to miss!

Steven King Wins European Short-Handed Poker Championship
The Winamax Poker Open €550 buy in main event was the biggest 6 max tournament held in Europe (disclaimer: to our knowledge) with 656 participants. As you would expect with an event sponsored by a French poker site the field was mainly from France but at the end of it all English poker pro Steven King took the lion's share of the money after a deal heads up with Belgian player Michael Gathy.
This was the first time D4 Events has offered re-entries into a tournament with this level of buy in. 26% of the players who busted out on Day 1A took the opportunity to re-enter on Day 1B including the eventual winner Steven King. Interestingly the player who knocked Steven out on Day 1B, Jean-Claude Marets also made the final table.
Winamax also paid out 9 free entries to players who won good beat jackpots by hitting a straight flush and bounties for knocking out their pro's.
Big names in attendance included Ludovic Lacay & Michel Abecassis.
The event was so popular with players that Marvin Brailly who could not board his flight from France made his way to the nearest port, got a ferry to Dover, a train to Birmingham, a bus to Liverpool and then another ferry to Ireland! He ended up finishing on the bubble and won a free entry onto the 2012 event.
This was the third year of this event and it is growing to be as popular as The D4 Events European Deepstack Poker Championship. In year one the field was 141, year two 313 and now 656. Next year it is expected to be even bigger.
D4 events is now taking this event on tour with stops coming up in Luton, Vienna and Coventry over the next few months and then it is time for the players favourite - The European Deepstack Poker Championships where over 1000 players are expected to participate in the main event. This is currently the largest un-sponsored poker event in Europe with over 90% of players buying in direct.

Jehan Zaib wins the English Deepstack Poker Championship
After a 3 hour long heads up battle Jehan Zaib overturned a big chip deficit to defeat Amir Masood and claim the title and £27,850 prize money. Amongst the 225 players were previous D4 Events Deepstack Champions Amy Trodd, Thomas Luther as well as established pro's such as Paul Jackson (making his 3rd D4 Deepstack cash in a row), Karl Mahrenholz, Mickey Wernick, Steve Jelinek, Stuart Fox, Julian Thew & Mark McCluskey.
There was no luck for Mark McCluskey in the main event but he took down the £300 side event. It was a good weekend for the 3 travelling Dutch players as Wim De Jong won the £200 side event and his friend Ron Mathijssen made the final of the Main Event.
Bankroll Supply had 17 players in the field and Jamie Shaw made the final table for them. Red Hot Poker's qualifier Andy King went a couple of places better than Jimmi Lee in Luton which meant he won a free seat into another D4 Events €550 event as part of Red Hot's "Build Your Own Poker Package" promotion.
Next up for D4 Events is The Winamax European Short-Handed Poker Championship in Dublin this week. Over 500 players are already fully paid or qualified and the total number is expected to top 650 - more than double the 313 who played last year and setting a new European record for a 6 Max event. Following that are more 6 Max events in Luton, Vienna and Coventry before The European Deepstack Poker Championship returns to Dublin in February 2012.

Lee Rawson Defeats Goliath, Beating Record-Breaking Field in Coventry
Lee Rawson has won the largest land-based poker tournament held in Europe – the GUKPT Goliath (August 24th-28th, 2011). He walked away with the trophy and £32,705, defeating a total field of 1,765 after three hard-fought days of poker at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
Grosvenor, in association with D4 Events, guaranteed £100,000 for this huge tournament, but in the end £176,500 was awarded in prizes to 261 players. In fact, no one who made Day 2 left empty handed: the few who missed out on the prize money were given free seats into next year’s event.
Rawson, a 42-year old professional poker player, defeated Coventry-based amateur Mark Broomhall heads up after a seemingly unstoppable run on the final table. Even Simon Deadman, who’d held the chip lead since Day 1, ended up with his chips in Rawson’s stack and a £10,590 4th place finish. To view full results for the event, as well as a gallery and final table report, please visit www.gukpt.com.
The charity Marie Curie Cancer care received £5 from each registration fee at Goliath (£10 from each re-entry) and the masseuses together gave £520 – this added up to a total donation of over £8,000.

Wesley Nobels Wins The Mediterranean Deepstack Poker Championship
The Mediterranean Deepstack Poker Championship II in Casino Portoroz, Slovenia has just finished. 150 players made the trip to the beautiful Slovenian coast resort of Portoroz to take part in D4 Events 50,000 chip deep stack tournament. This was double the amount of players that attended in 2010 and great indication that this fabulous new poker destination is only going to get more popular.
Over 90% of the field travelled from afar to this event with players attending from England, Ireland, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Croatia, Italy, Latvia, Bosnia, Canada and The USA.
By the time the final table was set it was the Belgian's who has the upper hand. 5 of them made the final nine and all of those lasted until only 6 players remained. Anthony Rodrigues entered the day as a big chip leader with almost 1/3 of the chips in play. He was busted by the Day 1 chip leader Wesley Nobels in 3rd place. After a heads up battle that lasted for an hour with fellow Belgian Raf de Wever, the aggressive 21 year old Wesley had all the chips to claim the €17,900 first prize and the trophy.
The new Mediterranean Deepstack Poker Champion has now cashed in 3 D4 Events tournaments this year. He only started playing live within the last year as the age limit in his home country is 21. He is likely to be seen at more live tournament in the near future as he plans to re-invest most of his winnings in poker.
The next D4 Events tournament is the Belgian Deepstack Poker Championship in Casino de Namur. This is now the main event of The Wallonie Series of Poker and if last year is anything to go by it will be a sell-out again. The tournament starts on July 28th. After this it is the "Goliath" in Coventry which is being organised by D4 Events and G Casino in the impressive EON lounge at the Ricoh Arena. We stay in the midlands of England for the English Deepstack Poker Championship at The Broadway Casino in September before hopping across the North Sea for the Winamax sponsored European Short-Handed Poker Championship in Dublin. See www.d4events.com for all the latest information about our tournaments.
There are some videos from the Mediterranean event on our Youtube channel so you can see for yourself what a great place Slovenia is to come and play poker. http://www.youtube.com/user/D4Events
Attached is a picture of Wesley Nobels along with the full results. More photo's from the event will be available from Tuesday by request. Please credit Danny Maxwell from www.irishpokerboards.com for the photo's.
